Privacy Policy

Axis6 Engineering (“we,” “our,” or “us”) operates the Cribacus mobile application (the “App”). We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices regarding your data.

1. Information We Collect

You can score games immediately as a guest without creating a password. On first launch the App may create an anonymous Firebase account so your local history can later be linked to Google or Apple sign-in without losing data. If you choose to sign in, we collect the following information:

  • Account Information: When you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive a Firebase user ID from the identity provider. We do not store your password or OAuth tokens in our database. You may provide a display name and unique @handle so friends can find you.
  • Gameplay and Match Data: We store finished game records on your device, including player names, scores, and match outcomes. When you are signed in with a complete profile, finished games are also backed up to Google Firebase (Firestore) under your account. When you link a registered friend to a player slot, finished games may also be stored as shared matches so both players can sync and view head-to-head statistics. Friends cannot see your full match history or stats against other opponents.
  • Friends and Social Features: If you use in-person pairing (QR code or short link code) or send a friend request by exact @handle, we store friendship records and, for remote requests, pending request status in Firestore. Short-lived pairing sessions expire after a few minutes and do not expose raw user IDs in the QR payload.
  • Public Handle Index: When you save your profile, your @handle and display name are written to a searchable index so other signed-in users can find you by exact handle. Your private profile document is readable only by you.
  • Financial and Transaction Data: When you make an in-app purchase to remove advertisements, the transaction is processed entirely through the Google Play Store or Apple App Store billing system. We do not collect, view, or store your credit card numbers, billing addresses, or financial credentials. We only receive a secure confirmation from the store validating that the purchase was successful to unlock your ad-free experience.

Camera (pairing only): Linking a nearby player uses your device camera to scan a QR code. Camera access is requested only for that flow; images are not uploaded to our servers. We do not request access to your precise location, contacts, or unrelated device storage.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the collected data strictly to:

  • Create and maintain your user profile and @handle.
  • Track, sync, and display your cribbage match history, personal statistics, and head-to-head records with friends.
  • Enable friend linking, pairing, and friend requests.
  • Verify and maintain your “ad-free” purchase status on your device.
  • Ensure the security and proper technical functioning of the App backend.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for marketing purposes.

3. Advertising and Third-Party Ad Networks

For users utilizing the free version of the App, we display third-party advertisements through Google AdMob to support ongoing development. AdMob may collect and use pseudonymous device identifiers and basic usage data to serve relevant ads. Google's privacy policy also applies.

You can manage or reset ad tracking preferences in your device settings. Once an in-app purchase to remove ads is completed and active, banner and interstitial advertisements are disabled in the App.

4. Third-Party Service Providers

We use Google Firebase for authentication and cloud data storage (profiles, match backup, friendships, and pairing sessions). Sign-in is provided by Google and Apple. These third parties only process your information to provide services on our behalf and are obligated not to disclose or use it for unrelated purposes.

5. Data Security

The security of your data is important to us. All communication between the App and our backend servers is encrypted in transit using industry-standard protocols (HTTPS/SSL). While we strive to protect your personal information, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure.

6. Account and Data Deletion

You have the right to request deletion of your account and associated cloud data at any time.

In-App Deletion: Settings → Account → Delete account.

Web-Based Deletion: If you no longer have the App installed, you can submit a request online at: https://axis6.ca/cribacus/account-deletion

Deleting your account removes your Firebase user, profile, @handle, friendships, and pending friend requests from our servers. Local match history stored on your device is not removed automatically. Some cloud match documents may remain until separately purged.

7. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the “Effective Date” at the top.
